HIV

Spread the word, not HIV!

What is HIV

HIV is short for Human  Immunodeficiency Virus.

When you have HIV, the virus weakens your immune system by killing many T- Cells (CD4+ Cells) that are important in fighting off infection and different illnesses.

There is a misconception where people make the mistake thinking that HIV is the same as AIDS. If a person has HIV it doesn't always mean they have AIDS. When HIV is caught before it becomes AIDS it can be slowed down or stop damage to the immune system to prevnt it form progressing into AIDS. HIV turns to AIDS when it reaches the final stage which can take 10 - 12 years for HIV to progress into if left untreated. AIDS happens when the HIV virus has weakened your immune system to a point where you have very little T-Cells left leaving you unable to fight off diseases or infections effectively. AIDS is more deadly since it can result in death.
