 How to HIV is Spread

HIV isn't something that you can spread just by hugging someone or even drinking from the same cup. HIV usually spread through bodily fluids like the ones you release in sexual intercourse or by blood.

These are ways you can spread or put yourself at greater risk of getting HIV:

  • Anal or vaginal intercourse without a condom (female or male)
  • Oral sex
  • Using an unclean needle when taking drugs (steriods, hormones, etc.) that was infected by a persons blood who does have HIV
  • Getting blood of someone infected on an open wound or by cuts on the mouth while kissing
  • Multiple partners
  • Sharing of items that may have blood on them like razors, needles for peircing, etc.
  • Having been given birth by a person with HIV


Ways to Prevent Being Infected by HIV

If you are sexually active, have many partners, or use a needle for any reasons there are a few things you can do to help prevent and protect yourself from getting HIV.
Some ways getting HIV can be prevented or attempted to be kept from being spread is:
  • Never share needles
  • Disinfect the needles you use
  • If anything abstain from sexual intercourse and sharing needles
  • Don't share personal items that can have blood on them like razors, toothbrushes, blades for cutting or scarring, or needles
  • If you choose to have intercourse always use a condom (male or female)
If you are pregnant and infected with HIV it does not necessarily will mean that your child will be born with HIV. If you refrain from breastfeeding, regularly use your HIV medicine as prescribed or even having a cesarean delivery it can greatly lower the risk of your child getting HIV.
