HIV is an STD can experience symptoms shortly after being infected but considering everyone is different some symptoms can stay dormant for a long time and allow the infection to get into different phases undetected.

The typical pill that most patients get prescribed are antiretroviral pills that help take away symptoms and help delay the HIV from pprogressing into AIDS like Retrovir, Norvir, and/or Vitonavir.
